DARWIN INITIATIVE CALL FOR FUNDING APPLICATIONS: ROUND 15
The Darwin Initiative seeks to help safeguard the world's biodiversity by drawing on UK biodiversity expertise to work with local partners in countries that are rich in biodiversity but poor in financial resources.
Since it's launch at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio, the programme has already committed over 30 million GBP to more than 400 biodiversity projects in around 100 countries.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is now inviting applications from UK institutions and organisations for support for projects under Phase II of the Darwin Initiative to commence from May 2007. ECTF are managing the application process on Defra's behalf.
The guidance notes for applicants and application forms are available on the Darwin website at http://www.darwin.gov.uk/applications. If you have difficulty accessing the information and forms please contact ECTF. The documents are also available in large print on request.
Please note that the application process will be carried out in two stages. Only those applicants successful in Stage 1 will be asked to continue on to Stage 2. Please ensure that you read the guidance carefully and complete the forms accordingly.
The closing date for Stage 1 applications is by midnight on Friday 15 September 2006. Please send the completed form by email to firstname.lastname@example.org - ensuring that the proposed project title is in the subject line of the email.
Stage 1 applicants will be notified by late November 2006 and successful applicants will be asked to submit full applications for Stage 2 by midnight on Friday 5 January 2007. Defra expects to announce the successful Round 15 applicants towards the end of March 2007.
Further information on the Darwin Initiative, including lists of projects funded in previous rounds, can be found on our web site at www.darwin.gov.uk.
